An interesting fact I recently learned. Outside of New England, Clevelanders consume more clams during the fall than anywhere else in the country. Perhaps it’s a nod to Moses Cleaveland, the city’s founder, who came from Connecticut. Or maybe it’s simply because clams dipped in butter are delicious.
Whatever the reason, I was happy to be another statistic this past Sunday evening.
The Voegele, Altieri, Cox, and Fedor tribes all gathered at my place for a clambake (and what I hope was the first of an annual tradition).
I had the easy part of hosting the event, while the others did everything else to prepare a master feast. In addition to the 200 clams, we also enjoyed sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, octopus salad, Jamaican jerk chicken, and a whole slew of appetizers.
Fortunately, the weather cooperated, allowing everyone to enjoy some wine, single malts, and cigars around the fire pit late into the night.
I am certainly no expert as far as clambakes go, but I wouldn’t hesitate to argue that the evening was a rousing success and something those in attendance would agree bears repeating (see what I did there, already trying to guilt the others into making this an annual tradition).
Of course, the real star of the night was Perry, who is quickly developing a reputation as a “velcro baby” because she loves to be held by everyone. Naturally, no one objected.
It’s certainly been an exciting summer in Cleveland and the city has garnered much well-deserved attention and respect. That will continue through the weekend as the Cleveland Indians continue to battle the Chicago Cubs in the World Series. Another world championship would punctuate what has already been a fantastic summer (wow, did I say “another” championship… Who would’ve thought)!
What makes Friday night’s game even more special for me, is that the starting pitcher for the Indians, Josh Tomlin, will have his dad watching him from the stands. His father was recently paralyzed from the chest down after an accident. It’s been touch and go, but he has mustered enough strength to make it to Wrigley to watch his son pitch. A lot of storylines in the Fall Classic, but this one is my favorite (click to read).
Finally, I had another blog published on a new site called Roll Revolution. Although, it’s more of a retread of a piece I wrote for Real Housewife of Miami Lea Black’s website last year (click to read).
Thank you to everyone for your continued prayers and support. I would not be where I am today without them!
Stand Strong!
Scott
Go Tribe! Go Wildcats!
Sounds like a great time!
You are always the perfect host. Baby Perry is so sweet. I know you can’t wait to spoil her.
Nice photos Scott. Thank you for the update.
Wanted to tell you Grant is still working at Orange theory Fitness. He’ll be adding Friday’s soon. Thank you again for all you do for others.
We had the best time!! Your home is beautiful and your niece is precious. It was a perfect night!
hey Scott, pics look great. what a beautiful baby. Clam bake sounded just perfect, but i haven’t ever had octopus salad or Jamaican jerk chicken, they sound really tasty. Can’t get much better, then after eating great food moving to the warm fire with friends, drinks and cigar, just perfection brother. The Tribe just had a bad night. God Bless, Praying always…
Mike insists on cheering for Cubs… I guess maybe because he grew up a fan… well I am all for the Indians. So definitely a house divided!!!! Go Tribe!!! and Prayers continue.
You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers, my friend.
Don’t know if you heard but I have moved. I’m in residence at St. Matthias Catholic Church on W. Sprague Rd. It’s in Parma on the border of Broadview hts and Seven Hills. All is well here.
We need to catch up!
