“Focus on and be grateful for what you have not for what you had.”
So I just finished reading, “The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven.” What an amazing book. I finished listening to it on CD yesterday afternoon and then found myself revisiting certain parts last night. I was at Metro today and told everyone I came across about the book. It is more a book about faith in God then it is about recovering from a spinal cord injury. Although, I do believe the two go hand-in-hand. What is so amazing about this book is the relationship, Alex, has with Jesus Christ.
While Alex is only 12 years old, he has a relationship with God that most adults who have been worshiping Christ their whole lives don’t even have. Alex and I have experienced the exact same life altering injury, yet he seems to have handled his with more grace and acceptance than I have. As the saying goes, “kids say the darndest things” and I realize I can learn a lot from a 12-year-old boy. I also find myself in awe of the time he has spent with God and the angels. To listen to the way Alex describes Heaven makes it easy to understand why does who have been there for a glimpse don’t want to come back to the life they left behind. Alex talks about how much he misses God while in His presence because he knows he will soon need to leave Him. The most fascinating aspect, however, is that Alex’s visit was not a one-time event. Six years after his injury and he still experiences Heaven every now and then. Even more fascinating is the fact that Alex realizes and appreciates the magnitude of the gift he’s been given. And to top it all off, he is a Buckeye fan! I hope to one day have the pleasure of meeting Alex and his family.
Yesterday was a tough day for me for reasons that I may discuss at a later date. I was emotionally drained at the end of the day and in need of some rest. I feel better today but realize I might be in for some more of these days in the near future. However, like Alex, I have placed my life in the hands of God and trust in Him to give me what I need to make it to where it is He wants me to be.
As always, thank you to everyone for your prayers and support!
Scott

Always remember the Blessed Trinity… I often forget about the Holy Spirit but remember when times are tough turn to the Holy Spirit for a much needed lift of spirit. We are praying for you Scott! Hang in there… At least your OSU BUckeyes are doing better than my Fighting Irish.
May the dear Lord hold you in the Palm of His Hands.

Scott,
That book sounds amazing. I requested it at the library. I’m looking forward to reading it someday.
My parents have a cottage on Coldwater Lake. So do my aunt & uncle. My aunt & uncle’s cottage is right down the street from your inlaws place at the lake.
I have been following your blogs since the beginning. I really enjoy reading them.
I will continue to keep you in my prayers.
Sincerely,
Laura Williams
I am glad the book resonated with you. I knew it would. See you Monday. Take care. Hang in there.
Hi Scott. You may not remember me but I was a nursing student who helped take care of you aug 2009 – oct 2009 at metro. For some reason today I thought of you and decided to see if could find out how you were doing. You sure have come a long way since I’ve seen you last. I’m so proud of all the hard work you’ve done in the road to your recovery. You changed my life. I have used you as inspiration for lots of school papers and have since been set on working with spinal cord patients. Thank you so much for touching my life. You are an amazing person and have immense strength. I will continue to pray for you Scott.

God has placed a desire in us to be with Him.
Being here makes me long for something I feel is missing in my life every day.
But I know that desire is more filled when i focus on Him and what He needs me to do for Him here each day.
We / you are His voice – Keep being a vessel for Christ.
I have often felt he was working on you from the early journal entires and your struggles and yet your peace and direction.
Scott – you are God’s and always have been. He loves you and has a great work going on in your life.
As Rich Mullins so simply put it – Be God’s – it’s the main thing.
I pray for you every morning –
Your sister in Christ – 🙂 Margie ~
