“My attitude bright & bold tattooed – Ready to ride the wave of positive momentum. Negative disabled.” – Lily Chatterjee
This past week was another milestone along my journey since my accident. No significant physical, mental or spiritual new heights were achieved. Rather, an emotional bond began to develop and take shape as I welcomed, Melanie, my new assistance monkey into my home and life. I am excited and looking forward to the relationship that will exist between us and the ways in which we will both help one another.
For the time being, I plan to limit the amount of detail I provide. The fact is, that while the idea of cohabitating with a Capuchin monkey might seem like a novelty, she is anything but, and I don’t want to treat her as such. However, I do think it is important for others to be able to appreciate the value and enrichment in one’s life that an assistance monkey can provide and will eventually do so.
I received several comments from the junior high students and teachers at St. Bernadette grade school, whom I spoke to last week. I am always particular fond of speaking to young students and enjoy the interaction that usually occurs. I was very humbled and touched by all of their notes and wanted to share just a few of them:
“Scott was very brave to say ‘yes’ to living when the doctor asked him if he wanted to live. He stayed strong when he was learning to keep his head up and to move his shoulders. Scott is very brave and he inspires me to try new things.” — 6th grader
“I like that you made a charity that helps people with spinal cord injuries!” – 6th grader
“What I learned from the speaker Friday is God doesn’t make mistakes but life can be scary at times but that’s when it gets interesting. After a storm comes a rainbow.” — 6th grader
“I thought the presentation was very nice. Scott has a great life story. I took away from the presentation to never give up. Life is a gift, use it well and wisely. Always live your life the way you want to live it. – 7th grader.
“I think Scott never had a doubt about not having faith. He always believed in himself. Even after his injury, he still loves doing all the things he did before. And he also said to always remember the word BARF.” – 7th grader
“The way he is very positive after his injury is meaningful to me. I hope if something like that happened to me, I would have the same attitude as him.” – 8th grader
“Scott Fedor was truly inspirational because he taught me that no matter what happens to me in my life to always make the best of it all.” — 8th grader
“It touched me how you adapted as an individual and took advantage of your tough situation and now [are] inspiring people of all ages. God does have a reason for everything!” – 8th grader
“Every time you can get the chance to say ‘I love you’ to someone, you love say it because you never know what can happen.” – 8th grader
As I mentioned in my previous post, I will be speaking at St. Joseph’s Church in a few weeks. It is a free event and anyone is welcome to attend. You can learn more about it by clicking here.
My sincerest thanks and appreciation for all of your continued prayers and support!
Stand Strong!
Scott

God Bless
liking all the recent updates scott.
Scottie! Oh my goodness, the comments from kids are you through and through, and I don’t find it shocking at all that you continue to education and inspire people of all ages. On a side note – Owen JUST asked me last week if you got your monkey yet! So ironic – cannot wait to hear more! Love ya!
Scott your unbelievable. Even though my life is different since my accident, it is manageable. It has been 11 years now and I thought I could get used to this life style, but it keeps getting harder. The things I have lost like most of my family, most of my finances and seeing that my daughter needs me less and less, living the lifestyle as a paraplegic is getting to much to bare. I see you and feel I have no right to feel this way and how does he do it. Maybe I lack faith, or mental strength, I don’t know, but please know you are not just an inspiration, but proof that there is a God. I just need to open my eyes.
Your the greatest person I know, and I want to come see you everyday but I feel like it’s not fair to visit you with all this negativity in my heart.
Please know I think of you everyday and I talk to God about you. I don’t know if it’s praying or just talking, but I ask him to keep you going and speaking to these kids.
I will come see you soon, I miss our talks.
Love ya brother.
Scott, the kids’ comments are the real inspiration (but of course you knew that!). All the best to you and Melanie, I can’t wait to see some pics and hear some details. 🙂
What wonderful insiteful comments from the students. You have touched so many lives in a very positive way. God is certainly working through you. Can’t wait to hear more about Melanie.
God bless and keep you.
Scott
Kids are so beautifully honest! Love those notes and what they express so well!
God Bless!
One of my boys asked about you this morning. (Well about Melanie too…..) They are still moved by your message. And my children?!?! Jumping out of their skin about your new friend. They even watched Curious George tonight. 😉
Where is the pic of your new lady? Have you taken her out for a proper dinner yet?
Scott, I hope you and your assistance monkey Melanie have a successful bonding and you both become great partners through this life journey for each other.
What remarkable young students from St. Bernadette’s. It’s obvious you made a difference and touched them very deeply. You are an amazing young man who brings so much possitive energy into this world.
God keep you safe and watch over you always…..
Pauline
