Hello
It’s been a busy past several days. I spent last Friday back at Metro hospital. I was there for about 8 hours, however, it was by choice this time. I went back for a consult on a future procedure I am considering. While there, I had a chance to reconnect with several of the doctors, nursing staff and therapists who treated me while I was a patient. I also received a brand new laptop from the Northeast Ohio Spinal Cord Association. The laptop came equipped with a webcam; a nice feature that has allowed me to reconnect on Skype. Feel free to send me your Skype address if you would like to chat sometime. While it was nice to see everyone at Metro, it was also nice to be able to leave. After spending 5 months there during a very critical time in my recovery, I was happy to not have to stay over again.
It has been a steady stream of visitors since Saturday. On Saturday I was blessed with a visit from my 6 month old niece, Anna. My brother-in-law and his wife brought her for a wonderful visit. I was able to give her some rides on my wheelchair, which she really seemed to enjoy. This past week has been Wildcat Week, as every day I have been treated to a visit from someone from St. Ignatius. These visits have been especially enjoyable. It’s been a lot of fun to catch up with friends from the past.
I had a rep from EasyStand visit me to fit me for an EasyStand. This will allow me to find out what model and accessories I need. The stand can be quite pricey so it is very important to make sure I order the proper one. The good news is the rep left a demo stand with me for a week to use as needed. Yesterday was the first time I used the stand and I stood for a good 20 minutes. I hope to get a half hour next time up. Standing is very beneficial as it puts weight on my bones and joints. So far, I continue to stand with relative ease and no blood pressure issues.
Kristy and I were planning a field trip to the movies this weekend, but may hold off due to the latest weather forecast. Although we all know how wrong the forecast can be evidenced by the “fateful dive” I took as a result of an erroneous forecast. In any event Kristy and her friend are planning an excursion to an Indians game for me in May.
I finally received my voice recognition software. I am in the process of setting up and learning how to use it. The hope is that it will make me completely independent when it comes to using a computer.
I posted a few pictures from my visit with Anna and Easter Sunday. I will post a picture of me standing very soon. I hope to give another update sooner that later.
Please continue to keep my family and I in your prayers and continue the special requests to Pope John Paul II.
Scott
