I started Getting Back Up in 2011 to help other individuals living with spinal cord injuries.
After being told I was no longer eligible for physical therapy, I wanted to do something to ensure that others would have options available to them.
Fast forward to today and the organization has assisted hundreds of individuals with grants towards exercise-based therapy and adaptive products.
I am both proud and humbled at the incredible difference the organization has made in others’ lives. Individuals who were told they were out of options, have found an option through GBU. The grants provided have allowed those individuals to improve their quality of life through continued exercise-based therapy programs and specific products geared to their needs.
You never know which session will be that one session that serves as a catalyst for unbelievable breakthroughs. I’d like to think GBU has been responsible for some of those springboard sessions.
The organization continues to be faced with an incredible demand for assistance. And while every applicant may be worthy of assistance, the stark reality is that resources are finite and difficult funding decisions are made at every turn.
So imagine my delight when my friend Isaac told me of his recent plans to help raise money for Getting Back Up. Isaac and a group of several others will be participating in the Glass City Marathon on April 23 in Toledo. They will be running to support those who aren’t able to do so.
I encourage you to check out all the details here and please consider supporting this important endeavor – after all, you’d be supporting so many other individuals as well.
You’ve heard me say it before – “Inch by inch… It’s a cinch; Yard by yard… It’s awfully hard.”
Let’s add a third stanza – “Mile by mile… Help make someone smile!”
Stand Strong!
