“When you’re a winner you come back no matter what happened the day before.”

I had these grandiose visions of posting about how my beloved Browns won their third game in a row; however, that wishful thinking did not come to fruition.  They fought hard and played a great game, but still managed to come up short in the end.  There are a lot of parallels between their performance yesterday and this spinal cord injury.  A lot of times no matter how hard you work at getting stronger you still find yourself confronting obstacles and setbacks that just can’t seem to be avoided.

I continue to push forward every day, yet still often get frustrated at the lack of progress I feel I am making.  Today I had an appointment with an endocrinologist to discover that I have the beginning stages of Osteoporosis…surprise, surprise.  I am told this is normal for people in my condition, but still disheartening for a former athlete and extremely active individual to hear this.  However, like a brilliantly prepared game plan, sometimes there are just things difficult to defend against.  It’s how you adjust when confronted with the adversity that matters most.  In my case, the adjustment will be a medicine I’d expect to find in my grandmother’s cabinet.  Although I am certain that once I get my FES bike and start exercising the benefits will be very evident.

I was graced with a surprise visit from my cousins, Valerie and Stephanie, this past weekend.  This was a welcomed surprise that made for a wonderful time.  Valerie just moved back to Columbus from Manhattan and wanted to stop by with her sister to see me.  They also brought along Valerie’s four-legged roommate, Bruno.  Bruno is a pit bull/terrier mix who bears a striking resemblance to Colt McCoy, the Browns awesome young QB.  I attached a few pictures so you can judge for yourself.  We all watched the Browns game together as I gave Bruno rides around the room on my chair.  He actually seemed confused yet filled with enjoyment by the ride.  Lindsey was also up for the day to enjoy the surprise as well.

Tonight I am headed over to Metro Hospital for the Northeast Ohio Spinal Cord Association Chapter Meeting.  I don’t get a chance to get to these as much as I would like, so I am looking forward to tonight’s meeting and visit with everyone.

Finally I would like to congratulate the St. Ignatius Varsity Soccer team which won the State and National Championship in Soccer this past weekend.  My alma mater once again, won another “football” championship, though this one was of the European kind.  Way to go, Wildcats!

As always thank you for your prayers and support!  They are greatly appreciated.

Scott

Scott, good to hear that you are in great spirits. You are an inspiration to us all. I am not sure that I would be able to carry the motivation that you have. Elisa and I are still trying to plan a trip back to the “north” and hope to see you. BTW the Browns are having a great season compared to my Cowboys.

    Hi Scott,
Surrounded by three beautiful young girls, no wonder you are smiling. I am getting comments about your bracelet. I am trying to get people to buy them. When will the Plain Dealer print your story?

    Scott,
It was great seeing you this weekend! It was a lot of fun. You look great, love the beard! I look forward to seeing the desired “Pirates of the Caribbean” look next time I come over. I’ll call you next time I am in town. Bruno misses you.

    Love always-
    Valerie

Hi Scott u continue to be an inspiration to me and our family. As u know, this has been a life changing experience. Between work and hospitals, good days and bad. Today was a good day Jeremy went twelve hours on cpap, that was awesome. For the most part he has a good attitude. Question, are u pretty independent for the most part, do u have nurses or does your mom and dad take care of u? I cannot wait until Jeremy is ready to meet u. Well I can’t wait either, you helped me get through the first days and help the family. I feel like I know u. U are amazing and I read ur posts all the time. Good night.
    Hugs and kisses
