“Few of us have lost our minds, but most of us have long ago lost our bodies.” – Ken Wilbur
I know I sound like a broken record, but it is still pretty darn cold. It’s been a brutal winter for much of the country, especially for some who aren’t used to this type of weather. Hopefully everyone is staying warm and anticipating the sunny days ahead.
The cold has been making my bones creak…literally. You may recall that I had the upper portions of the titanium rods in my neck removed in late 2012 after they had cracked. A few weeks ago I started feeling and hearing similar cues as I did when they first broke.
Upon review of my flexion/extension x-rays it was discovered that the longer piece of the remaining rods at the bottom of the fusion construct is moving through the soft tissue on flexion and extension of my neck. It’s usually most noticeable at night when I am lying in a flat position with my head on the pillow.
At this point, I am hoping it does not advance to the point of needing another surgery. I certainly don’t want to have to go through that again, as it was extremely unpleasant. Keeping my fingers crossed. Besides, I am still battling a nasty pressure sore on my foot that has taken a long, long time to heal. I prefer to only deal with one issue at a time, if possible!
In other news, I gave two talks last week to elementary school students that seemed to go over very well. It’s always a crapshoot when talking to younger students, especially those who can get antsy and have a hard time sitting still. I would know as I was one of them in my school days. However, I found that sprinkling in a few stories about Melanie and sharing some video usually keeps their attention.
I have another talk this week and am looking forward to speaking to the students at St. Bernadette’s on Wednesday.
Speaking of creaky bones, my mother made it through her knee surgery last week in good health. I continue to pray that she will find some relief from the pain that has really been bothering her. I appreciate all of your prayers and would ask you to continue to keep her in them.
Finally, I want to remind everyone that I will be shaving my head in a month to help raise money for children’s cancer. Please consider a small donation to assist those who are affected. You can help support the cause by clicking here.
Thank you in advance for your support
