“Better a bald head than no head at all.” – Seamus McManus

Only a few more days until the St. Baldrick’s event. Good thing too, as my hair is beginning to get out of control. I think “poofy” would be the appropriate word to describe my mop. It’s officially in the high maintenance stage. I anticipate my head being extremely itchy as the hair starts to grow back in. However, I’m looking forward to chopping it off for a great cause!

The event kicks off at 4 PM this Saturday at the Rocky River Brewing Company. Because of the anticipated large turnout, the actual hair shaving will take place next door at The Force. The Barrio Taco truck and Lil’ Cheezers food truck will be on-site to serve food, as well as the Brewery which will be open and serving its usual menu. Adult beverages will be available at The Force throughout the night and a DJ will be spinning tunes. Anyone is welcome to attend.

You can still support the event which raises money for Pediatric Cancer Research by clicking here. Our team is 97% of the way towards our $100,000 goal! A sincere thank you to all those who have already pledged their support.

Last Wednesday I had an evaluation to begin receiving Hyperbaric Oxygen treatments to help expedite the healing of my foot. However, the IV seems to be doing the trick so far, so I’m not sure if I will proceed with the treatments.

As we were heading home from the appointment, we stopped at a light on W. 25th St. near downtown Cleveland. It’s a very popular section of town full of bars and restaurants. I noticed there was a man dressed in priest robes standing on the corner. Next to him was a younger man with a big black, ash cross on his forehead. It was Ash Wednesday and I figured he had just come from a local mass. I was a bit dejected thinking that I wouldn’t make it to church that day to receive ashes. However, as I continued to look at the pair I realized that they were actually administering ashes to passersby on the sidewalk.

Once the light turned green we pulled over to the side of the street. They approached my window and asked me if I would like to receive ashes. Of course. The priest reached in through the window, and anointed my head with ashes as the other guy said a quick blessing. Ten seconds later we pulled away. Not sure if I should be thrilled at how convenient it was to receive “drive-by ashes” or appalled at how convenient it was. Nonetheless, I was happy to receive them.

The past couple days have been beautiful (relatively speaking) with temperatures in the upper 50s. I’ve even been able to leave my patio door ajar for several hours. Driving back and forth to the gym today it looked like a late spring day outside. Unfortunately, the forecast calls for several inches of snow tonight which should continue throughout most of the day tomorrow. It will go from 60° to 16°. I keep telling myself it has to stop being cold at some point. Until then, doing my best to stay warm, as I hope everyone else is as well.

My continued thanks for the prayers and amazing support!

Stand Strong!

Scott

Drive-by ashes, now that’s thinking outside of the box… bet Jesus would approve!

Good luck with the shave-a-thon, and be sure to take care of that foot 🙂

That is amazing that you have raised so much for your charity. Such a good cause. Can’t wait to see you bald. Another snow storm coming, our pre St.Patty’s day visit.
    God bless,

If you see a young woman walk in with teal hair, that’s my daughter. She raised an additional $500.00 by telling people she would dye her hair the color that won the most votes.

Scott, They did the drive in ashes in RI too, I think you are officially Episcopalian now. Just like a Roman Catholic with no guilt.

I guess receiving ashes curb side is better than not receiving ashes at all! Wish I could be at the head shaving event, but I will be in Nashville whooping it up at the realtor’s convention!!
