Greetings!
I’m sure everyone was expecting my next post to be about the great time I had at the Indians game last Wednesday. Unfortunately, I can’t report that it was a good time. I also can’t report that it was a bad time. It never happened. Wednesday morning I developed a sudden case of vertigo. This was a very rough feeling. The room kept spinning in all directions every time I was moved. It lead to some feelings of nausea that I couldn’t shake. We tried a lot of different remedies but nothing took. the van showed up to transport us to Progressive field, and I made the driver wait for thirty minutes while I tried to rally. After some deliberation, Kristy, my mom and I decided it would probably be better to forego the game until another day. the worse thing any of us wanted was for me to get sick while out. So my longing to escape and get out as I so desperately wanted would have to be postponed. I still want to thank Erin for arranging this trip. I encouraged Kristy to still go to the game with Erin, as I felt horrible for feeling like I had let them down, since Erin had pulled some strings to make the trip happen. It was good though for Kristy and Erin to spend some girl time at the ball park. fortunately they left before the 9th inning and didn’t have to bear witness to another cleveland collapse and yet another loss.
The good news is that it was still a great week. While the vertigo is still with me today, it is much more subdued and more manageable. Friday morning the wheelchair was fixed and now works better than it ever has. Saturday there was a BBQ at RaeAnn and Kristy, Bob, Amanda, and Anna(by far the world’s cutest baby) all came to visit me. We enjoyed a lot of food and some good weather. Bob and Amanda headed to nearby Crocker Park shopping plaza for a few hours and left Kristy and I to babysit Anna. This was probably the highlight of the day. Anna always seems so calm and in tune with what is happening around her. she’s one of those babies that lulls first time parents into the false belief that they should have more kids because they are so easy to care for. Anna certainly spoils everyone with her pleasant and serene demeanor.
Sunday capped off the week-end with a day out. FINALLY!!! Kristy and I spent the day out and about in even better weather. We first headed to Crocker Park for some shopping and people watching. The funny thing is while people may have been looking at me, I still found myself laughing at others. Kristy and I have always been experts in the area of “people watching”. Sunday did not disappoint. After Crocker we headed to the supermarket for a bottle of wine. I must admit Kristy looked very nervous as I cruised through the wine aisles. fortunately we only had to pay for one bottle, the one that we bought. We then headed to subway to pick up some grub and then we were off to a park bench just outside our apartment. Kristy even brought Kingsly over to join us. The wine, sun, cat, wife and feeling of happiness all added up to a smile of my face. We then headed back to RaeAnn. On our way back we crossed the “scary” intersection we had avoided earlier that day. I kept making a joke to Kristy that my wheelchair was running out of power and I thought we were going to stall in the middle of the intersection. So Kristy threw the chair into Overdrive mode and ran me up unto the sidewalk so fast that I starting spasming and laughing as I hit the sidewalk and almost popped out of my chair. I’m sure we looked like the odd couple as I appeared to be having an epileptic seizure while we both were laughing our a##es off! Good times!
this will be another busy week, with visits to the VA hospital, Cleveland Clinic, a photo shoot, a meeting with BVR and some other planned visits and a standing wheelchair trial on Friday. However, as busy as it may be, I still love all the visitors that come to see me. So if you find yourself in the area, please stop by.
As always, thanks for your prayers and support.
