“The soul is healed by being with children”

Hello,

Another week is here and it’s already been pretty busy and productive. This morning I was able to get some great range of motion with, Pat, who has volunteered her time every Monday. She usually stretches my arms, legs and neck. Today we worked a little bit on my upper back and chest muscles. She thinks she could feel me flexing them slightly, which would be great news, if that is in fact what’s happening. She taught my mom some new ways to use the E-stim so that we can get the max benefit out of it. Before Pat arrived one of the wheelchair vendors fitted my wheelchair with a head array system. This allows me to use my head to press against the back and sides of the headrest to move the chair. Typically, I use the straw, aka sip-n-puff, to control my chair. The new head system takes a little bit to get used to; the chair moves at a much faster pace and I am unable to control the speed. It is also very sensitive and the slightest movement of my head can move the chair, even if unintentional. It feels a bit harder that my normal headrest. It also does not allow me to go in reverse. I am much more comfortable with the sip-n-puff, but plan to give the head system a good trial. This afternoon I got in my standing machine for 15 minutes. I felt great and all went well. I had stood in it last Friday afternoon, but only lasted 5 minutes. Because I hadn’t stood in so long, my body quickly gave me the warning signs that it wasn’t comfortable. No problems today though. I will need to work my tolerance back up – slowly though because my legs have not been stretched out in several months, I need to be careful that I don’t overstretch the muscles and do damage.

After therapy I had a brief phone consultation with an equity firm. I am part of a consulting group that frequently is engaged on matters relevant to their background. Today I spoke about the home improvement industry. I have done these in the past, but today felt good because it is my first one since the accident. I certainly would like to find a way to consult on a more permanent basis. In a weird way, I do miss the work.

Saturday was my healing session I attended. I am happy to report I did not suffer any snake bites. The session was interesting; some of you may know Dr. Nemeh, by the posts you’ve left. He was who I saw. I had done a session with him over the phone back in January but appreciated the face to face much more. He spent about 15 minutes with me. I didn’t feel any different, but keep myself open to the idea of being healed through God and the Holy Spirit. I still need to work hard on my own as well. I do plan on getting in to see Dr. Nemeh for an individual consultation and perhaps some acupuncture. I was fortunate enough at the session to meet another quad. He is in a similar situation as mine; he had the pacer implanted as I did and has also had the Cough Assist implanted. I am due to have my Cough Assist surgery in August. It was very helpful to talk to someone who has had it done. It’s a pretty invasive surgery that requires a doctor to cut into my vertebrae and implant electrodes. It was nice to see someone who had the surgery and could speak first hand of its benefits. My mother has been researching some clinical trials for me to participate in. We also have been looking at several houses, as I am eager to get into my own place. I have a great realtor, Donna, who has been very helpful with this process. She has also become a good friend who visits me often.

That’s about it for right now. I plan to do an E-stim session later this evening.

I almost forgot, Kristy made her first trip back to the lake since the accident. I encouraged her to go, even though she was reluctant at first, because I knew it would help her. I spoke to her briefly today and she said she had a nice time and managed better than she thought. I was happy to hear this. I will write more later this week. In the meantime, please keep up your prayers and support. I greatly appreciate them.

(I also prayed for several of you this weekend at my healing service. That includes you too, Harry, and your wife even though I don’t necessarily agree with your taste of college football teams)

Scott
