So, I wrote another book. (Quite a while ago actually.)
During my senior year of high school, I took a creative writing class in which the goal was to write a novel. The only requirement was that every day we had to write something, nothing special, just write something. We were told not to worry about punctuation, grammar, or any other type of syntax, just get the words down on paper.
I sat in front of a word processor every night after football practice and just wrote. Although I had a general idea of what the story was about, I decided to just let the characters and their actions take me where they would. (Not exactly the best way to write a story.)
At the end of the semester, I had the first draft of The Awakening. It was rough and needed to be refined, but I had written a novel. Well, technically a (long) short story, or novella.
What has been published is the original story. Sure, I cleaned up all the typos and grammar issues (and there were a lot) but the story, characters, and plot lines were left completely intact. It is what I transcribed three decades ago as a kid in my late teens.
The goal in publishing the novella all these years later, besides selling a million copies, was to preserve the integrity of the original work. And I have done that.
Admittedly, it is not my best writing. Far from it. The story would benefit from being culled, tightened, and properly paced. It reads like the work of a novice who is new to the craft of writing. Because that is exactly what it is.
The book’s purpose is not meant to appeal to the masses or set the science fiction genre ablaze. Rather, it exists to provide the reader with a glimpse into the mind of an adolescent who thought it would be neat to write a novel.
Over the past thirty years, there have been several stories, films, and other narratives that have a similar theme to my story. However, if you choose to read my novella, keep in mind that those works did not exist when my story was conceived and written. I’d like to think I was somewhat ahead of the curve. (Then again, it’s a big curve.)
The Awakening is a bizarre story, and I have no recollection of how I even came up with the idea for it. The average reader might find its contents to be off-putting and somewhat shocking. Honestly, it’s not exactly something I would choose to write today, as I find it a bit too macabre for my taste. However, it was my first major writing assignment.
It was fun and I learned a lot. I wanted to share it.
You can find a copy here or anywhere books are sold.
I hope you enjoy it!
And if you do decide to read it, please leave a review on the site where you purchased, as it will help spread awareness.

I am going to order the book from Amazon. But I need to read two weeks of newspaper and four newsletters first!
Congratulations on your new book, Scott! I love your intriguing storyline, and I’m really looking forward to reading it.
Scott I can’t wait to read your new old book! Highschool was the most bizarre time in my life. I am going to sit back with a bottle of wine and enjoy reading your book!
Can’t wait to get a copy for Tom and my brother (class of ‘79, who has your other book). Your writing is excellent, and what you have to say is very much worth reading about!
Scott,
It’s hard not to judge this book by its cover! Can’t wait to read it!
STAND STRONG!

Just got it will try to read soon🙂
You did it!! Another goal accomplished in typical Scott Fedor style. All those years ago when you changed left one career to pursue new opportunities, you said you planned to publish a novella. You always amaze me! Congrats on achieving another long-term goal!!
