I had another great week of workouts this past week that left me feeling sore, exhausted, energized and invigorated all at the same time. At times it seemed like my trainers, Mike and Kyan, thought I was Gumby, evidenced by the pretzel-like ways in which they twisted, bent and shaped me. I found my body doing some things it hasn’t done it almost 2 1/2 years. At one point as I was sitting on the floor with my torso up against the wall, I couldn’t help but think that I could pop to my feet if I tried hard enough.
Sometimes I’m still amazed when I look at my legs and try so hard to move them to no avail. It dumbfounds me that I can concentrate so hard trying to generate the slightest of movements and get absolutely no results. This is still my body, but right now I no longer have the power to tell it what to do. It’s like a stubborn child that just won’t listen. I’ve yet to find the stimulus that will excite my limbs enough to want to get going again. However, I have not and will not give up the hope that one day I will surprise myself. I’m full of surprises.
Speaking of surprises, the Bruce Springsteen concert sold out in a few hours when tickets went on sale earlier this morning. I want to send out a special thanks to Lori who was able to hook me up with some rockstar seating. One of the guys I plan to go to the concert with is my priest friend, Damian, who is one of the biggest Bruce fans I know. In fact, we saw The Boss in concert together 20 years ago at the Richfield Coliseum. The picture below is from the Human Touch tour in 1992. Although, judging by the looks on our faces we seem to be more excited about the beer the guys we were sitting next to bought for us.
So I mentioned in a previous post that I had a photo shoot several weeks ago. Last October, Lindsey decided to enter me in a search that Cleveland Magazine was conducting. As it turns out, she was notified the night before I had my neck surgery that I had been selected as a “Sexy Single” to be featured in the magazine’s February issue. I’m still not sure what this means and find the whole thing to be rather funny, but nonetheless am honored that my sister would even think to submit me. It’s amazing to think that February is only a few days away and we still have not experienced much of a winter here in Cleveland. The harsh weather that usually accompanies this time of year has been replaced by a few sprinklings of snow and temperatures that flirt with the upper 50s. You certainly will not hear me complaining about being cheated out of a normal winter. As far as I’m concerned, summer can’t get here soon enough!
Please continue to keep all those living with spinal cord injury in your prayers. Thank you for all the support you continue to show me! Stand Strong!
