Summer is in full swing.
Like most of the country, Ohio has been exceptionally hot and dry this season. Of course, I’m not complaining, as that is exactly how I like it. I have been taking advantage of the outdoors (not to mention perfecting my George Hamilton tan). For individuals with spinal cord injuries, summer is a forgiving season. The warm temperatures help mask the fact that our body temperatures run cooler and seem to reduce the level of spasticity to a certain extent. Not to mention, it’s a lot easier to get around and be more spontaneous.
I’ve been absorbing my fair share of live music events, cookouts, and other activities with friends and family. And it seems like every year around this time I find myself asking why I don’t live in a warm weather climate year-round? But I can’t help it, I love this area and have such an amazing support network that it would make it difficult to call any other place home. So I just make sure to enjoy the most of summer days I do have. So far, that plan has been working out just fine.
A few other items of note:
This Friday I will be the keynote speaker at Karnea, which is Delta Tau Delta Fraternity’s biennial convention, hosted in cities across North America. Delts from across the globe gather to celebrate the Fraternity and its brotherhood. This year’s conference just so happens to be in the great city of Cleveland. Having joined DTD while at Lehigh, I am especially honored to speak at the event. Additionally, my friend and fellow brother, Bryan, will be flying in to accompany me.
Recently, I was notified that I was nominated/chosen to receive this years Distinguished Alumnus Award from my high school alma mater, St. Ignatius. I am extremely honored and grateful to accept the award and am especially humbled to be thought deserving of such an award in the eyes of my fellow Ignatius alumni. I am looking forward to the ceremony in late September.
Finally, I wanted to take a moment to mention the passing of my dear friend Bob Cox. I was introduced to Bobby more than 10 years ago and fell in love with his amazing spirit right away. Over the past decade we have enjoyed more than a few cigars, bourbons, clambakes and other dinners. His presence was always a welcome respite from whatever I have going on in my life. It deeply saddens me to know that I won’t have the opportunity to enjoy another conversation with him around the fire pit. Please offer up a prayer of peace for his family.
RIP Bobby.
Stand Strong!
Scott
Scott,
I was deeply moved by your story at Delta Tau Delta Karnea last week. And to now know you spoke to us with a heavy heart from the recent loss of a close friend? Just another example of your strength. Thank you for choosing to live and living the way you do. From what I have seen and heard, you truly are committed to a life of excellence, and living out our Fraternity’s mission daily. I’m inspired by your example.
Scott, Congratulations on your distinguished alumnus award! You have accomplished the incredible and are so deserving of such award and recognition.
As far as seasons, they all have their ups and downs, but having the 4 of them sure makes one appreciative for the others. Thank you for another great post. I keep your posts in my inbox sometimes for days, unread, until I find just the right time to read and savor what you’ve written.
I am so sorry for the loss of your dear friend. The veil is thin and I’m certain he’s still with you every day.
Peace and Love,
Sarah
It’s always so great to hear from you. Rick and I think of you often. You are one of those people we keep in our hearts forever.
I am sorry for the loss of your dear friend. Sending our love!
So sorry for your loss, Scott. It sounds like Bobby was a lovely man and a dear friend who you’ll miss a lot. I’m glad to hear you’re having balmy weather these days, though. Enjoy it while you can. If only I could figure out a way to export some excess Arizona heat to Cleveland….
So sorry for your loss, Scott. It sounds like Bobby was a lovely man and a dear friend who you’ll miss a lot. I’m glad to hear you’re having balmy weather these days, though. Enjoy it while you can. One of these days maybe I’ll figure out how to send some excess Arizona heat your way!
Congrats on receiving this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award from St. Ignatius. That certainly is quite an honor. I didn’t know Bob but wish I had. Sorry to hear he passed away.
Congratulations on your award, Scott. You deserve it. Sorry to hear about your friend.
Always good to hear what’s new and congrats on award as well. Up at the cabin and using “Scott’s” knives and pans. Great reflections on summer!
Congratulations on your St. Ignatius Alumnus award! Enjoy your upcoming DTD speaking engagement. You bring wisdom and encouragement to others, with your words. Lastly, so sorry for the loss of your dear friend, Bobby. May he RIP.
Scott, after all of these years I must have missed that we were fraternity brothers. I’m a Delt as well and was chapter advisor of my fraternity in BGSU until this last year for a decade. I wish I was there for your speech. Hope you are well. God bless. Mike
Good hearing from you Scott. Sorry for your loss. However, I am happy that you are enjoying the nice summer weather in Ohio and look forward to hearing from you next time. Best always.
Oh Scott, thank you for your beautiful, loving comments about our sweet Bobby!! He loved you so very much! You were always an inspiration to him and your friendship was so special to both of us!! Love you so much my friend!
