It’s time to close the book on another year and forge ahead with the promise of new beginnings.

In honor of 2016, below is my “Sweet 16”. In no particular order, they are lessons I’ve learned over the years, that I hope to appreciate even more this upcoming year.

1. It starts with the right attitude… Stay positive.
2. You can learn a lot from your parents.
3. Own a pet.
4. Time is a precious gift… Don’t squander it.
5. Patience is a powerful tool.
6. Fly the flag.
7. Respect our Veterans… They’ve earned. It.
8. You will make a lot of mistakes…Learn from them.
9. Hard work still gets you places.
10. It’s okay to dream BIG!
11. Know when it’s time to move on.
12. Every decision you’ve made brought you to this moment… Embrace the present and determine your own future.
13. Stop waiting for reminders.
14. Be grateful for days without pain.
15. Remarkable people are all around you… Discover some of them.
16. Enjoy some wine.

Finally, I recently achieved a new milestone during one of my workouts. I was able to sit upright, unassisted, on the edge of a table for more than 7 min. It felt pretty damn good!

Perhaps my new friend, Zero, who has been spending a lot of days with me, is also a good luck charm.

Zero is anything but that! what a sweetheart! Animals don’t talk back, they love unconditionally…I thank God for them as they remind us that He like them love us regardless. People disappoint but He doesn’t…they don’t. Glad for your accomplishment! My pain has subsided! I don’t know for how long…it’s been less for a couple of weeks! I just thank God for every time it happens. Hang in there! We have each other as we are supposed to have. I guess that’s the point. Have a blessed 2016 and thanks for all your support. It’s given me hope.

    Hello Scott,
Scott I wrote you a letter about 3/4 weeks ago in which I stated I need your help. Trying to send a letter to Bruce Springsteen can you read it when you have a moment hopefully you can make my dream a reality. I didn’t include so much personal info about me because I wanted it to be short and to the point.
I was born in New Jersey in 1950, Middlesex county just about a 30 minute ride down the NJ turnpike to Asbury Park the shore area I visited all the bars that The E Street Band played so I was a fan at the age of 18yrs.
Somewhat like you I had problems with my spinal cord after 6 surgeries on my back and one on my C1/C4 and 15 yrs later able to get around still having great pain and like you I always listened to Bruce for my energy and positive force to keep me going. I am trying to get a letter to the camp its something I wanted to due for years my wife suggested to contact you after seeing your web site.
Scott you are a terrific man you inspired me to get this far in my quest I am not a good writer find it hard to put words in print I hope this all makes sense to you.
You and your family enjoy The New Year I will continue to keep you in my mind and prayers you have been my Savor.

Hey Scott … CONGRATULATIONS!!! What an achievement! ( :

Thank you, again, for your posts. They are so uplifting and inspiring. Even though I do not respond often, I am here … in the background … reading every single one.

If Zero is a good luck charm, then I hope he is in your life every single day.

Wishing you and yours all the very best in 2016 — here’s to many more milestone achievements in the year ahead for you!

Scott, I realize there cannot be a Sweet 17 but I think you need to include: Continue to be an inspiration for others
Although I don’t communicate often, please know that you are always thought of and prayed for
Maybe in 2016 you could be the Browns new strength coach, God knows they could use some of yours!
Happy New Year to you and your family

Loved reading your Sweet 16. You are totally inspiring! Knowing you as I have since you were born, I realize how difficult practicing patience is for you. Your will and determination knows no bounds. To 2016 and all that it will bring. So happy to hear about the sitting up. Love you; love you. Aunt Marilou
