As previously mentioned, the recent Stand Strong Fundraiser was a rousing success allowing me to purchase the RT300 FES Bike I have wanted for some time, as well as continue with another year of workouts at Buckeye Wellness Center. Last week the bike was shipped to my apartment and yesterday a therapist from Restorative Therapies was on hand to help set it up and get me started.

On Wednesday, I enjoyed my first workout, an abbreviated exercise session for both my arms and legs. Everything went according to plan with the set up and it felt awesome to be able to have an intense workout that actually left me huffing and puffing. The best part was that my own muscles did the work themselves. As a result, these workouts will provide me with several health benefits, such as improved cardiovascular and blood circulation, increased muscle mass and bone density. There are even exists the potential for functional restoration through nerve regeneration.

In short, the bike works as follows: Electrode pads are placed on my quadriceps, hamstrings and glutes, biceps, triceps and shoulders. Electricity is then delivered to the electrodes, which in turn cause my muscles to contract. These contractions are what move my legs and arms, allowing me to cycle the bike. So when you see the bike pedals and handles moving – that is me making it move without any motor assistance.

Below is a quick highlight video from my first workout I wanted to share with everyone so that you could appreciate what your support and donations have helped me achieve. Please pardon the cheesy music, I couldn’t resist…

I plan to supplement my at home workouts with my continued weekly sessions at Buckeye Wellness Center. In fact, while at Buckeye today I set a new personal best for sitting, as I was able to sit unassisted on the edge of a table for more than 1 minute and 40 seconds.

Thank you for all of the continued prayers and support!

Stand Strong!

Scott

    Scott,
Every week I read your updates….many times over and over. I never cease to be amazed by your spirit and dedication to life. God truly had an alternate mission for you and you are far exceeding His expectations.

I’m happy the bike is working out and providing another source of strength.

Take care my friend. I think of you often – many times per week as I reflect on what is truly important in life.

I am so honored to have had the opportunity to meet and know you through our mutual friend, Kristin Foran.

Wow! I love to see those arms and legs working it! Your body will respond in ways that will be so encouraging and react to your hard work. I have a biodex bio step semi recumbent bike, and working my arms and legs has enabled me to challenge my body, and the results are everything you said. I’m so happy you have it Scott.
