1. September is National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month.
Consider the fact that there are 12,000 new injuries each year, or 1 new injury every 43 minutes. The average first year cost of each injury in medical expenses is almost $1.5 million, with each subsequent year averaging $200,000. That means, when coupled with the almost 1 million existing individuals living with an SCI, every year $218 Billion of ongoing medical expense is incurred by individuals living with an SCI. Staggering.
2. Amazing things happen when spinal cord injured individuals get the therapy they need.
