“You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.”

It’s Christmastime, a season typically marked by the generosity of others, the giving season. I have been so blessed and so fortunate to have been the benefactor of this generosity since my injury. I don’t have to wait until this time of year to appreciate how generous others are. Fortunately, I am constantly reminded of this generosity through the donations, visits, prayers and support I receive throughout the year.

However, I would be remiss if I did not recognize that this time of year tends to bring with it something “a little extra”. The past week has been filled with an influx of generosity from – a former work colleague I haven’t seen or spoken to in over 11 years (who also paid me a personal visit today); a fraternity brother whose gesture of kindness amazed me; the Darch family, who for the second year in a row plan to divert their giving funds to my discretionary trust. These are just a few of the many, many acts of kindness that have been bestowed upon me.

It is my hope that the thousands of other individuals who find themselves in a similar situation to me are also able to benefit from the generosity of their fellow neighbors. So, in the spirit of Christmas and the generosity which accompanies this giving season, I would urge everyone to consider making a donation to a worthwhile cause or charity which exists to help others. One such organization is The Miami Project, a foundation working towards a cure for paralysis.

Please consider donating to a worthy cause this Christmas such as the Miami Project. It’s your chance to help do something great – find a cure for paralysis! And if you are not in a position financially do so, consider donating your time to help those less fortunate than you, especially those who are hungry and homeless.

Finally, thank you for the many Christmas cards that have been sent my way. Every single one of them is proudly on display. It seems that every year I receive more and more Christmas cards featuring people’s children. I don’t have any children, but one of my nurses brought her dog over today for a visit and so below is my Christmas card to all of you… Merry Christmas!

Thank you for all the prayers and support! Stand Strong!
