It’s been a while since you heard from me. It would be great to tell you I’ve spent the last several weeks, relaxing in the sun along the Mexican Riviera. However, that’s not the case. Like most of you, I’ve been forced to endure these arctic cold fronts that just don’t seem to quit. In fact, it’s been so cold that I haven’t felt my toes in quite some time. Okay, bad joke.
Although I haven’t posted anything lately, I’ve been keeping myself quite busy, devoting much of my time to a variety of projects.
• Serving on a committee to help create a portion of a grant needed in order for MetroHealth to be selected as one of only 14 hospitals across the country to be recognized as an SCI model system care.
• Representing Northeast Ohio on a panel that is advocating against a state proposal, which would force individuals like myself to abandon their home health provider services and transition to agency services.
• Acting as a liaison when needed on a project which could potentially provide housing options for paralyzed individuals (similar to The Quad initiative by Getting Back Up).
Of course, I have also continued with my duties as a board member for LEAP and Getting Back Up, while also remaining active on the speaking circuit.
Recently, I spoke to a very attentive group of 7th and 8th graders at Edwards Middle School in Brunswick, Ohio. It’s always rewarding to speak to young students, and I am always impressed by the type of questions they ask. As of right now, I have talks lined up every month through July to keep me busy.
However, the biggest project which has been occupying most of my time is construction on a new home, which ultimately may morph into a “pseudo-Quad” facility. I have been in touch with different companies in hopes of soliciting some goodwill towards the project, several of which have already expressed interest. If anyone is interested in helping towards this cause, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Finally, I wanted to share one of the tweets from a student at Edwards Middle School. I feel extremely blessed to be able to reach others and always find myself humbled by the experience.
Stand Strong!
Scott

Hi Scott,
So glad to hear you are doing well these days, in spite of the arctic chill!
Stay warm, spring is just around the corner 🙂
Dear Scott, I am saddened to read all you are doing that should be just natural in the grand scheme of life. Especially the one where they want you to abandon your health care provider services and transition to a agency service. Is that a cost cutting service? It seems if it’s working, let’s change it. Or let something happen to someone on the committee like you, and they’ll change their tune in a hurry.
We have an awful waste of money in our system and if it can help someone, that’s where it they think it should be cut!! (they say) Keep up the good work and one day we will all be treated as brothers and sisters in a loving way.
You know April 1st is coming soon, if your friends fell for that Mexican Riviera thing, I bet you can come up with a better one for April Fool’s Day!
Scott, you’re the man! Thanks for the post, always interested in your adventures. Keep the faith, spring is around the corner. Cheers, Mike
