“A lot of people like snow. I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water.” – Carl Reiner
It’s still cold. It actually looks more like winter now than it did in December, especially when you consider Northeast Ohio had more snowfall on the first day of spring that it did on Christmas day. In fact, an Ohio lawyer recently filed a lawsuit* against the groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, for what he calls “misrepresenting an early spring.” However, I realize that a lot of people across the nation are dealing with much colder temperatures than they’re used to. My friend, Holly, informed me that it actually got down to 73° last week in Los Angeles and people had to bundle up in jackets.
Speaking of, Holly, she surprised me with a visit this past Friday evening. I was talking to her on the phone thinking she was in LA when there was a loud pounding at my front door. Upon opening it I was greeted by a tanned and giggling Holly bearing gifts in the form of California Malbec red wine. Needless to say, I was pleasantly shocked! This was the first time we had seen each other in almost a year and it was wonderful to catch up and spend some time together. Plus, it’s always great to sample a new wine!
I kicked off Monday by having the privilege of speaking to the Eli Lilly sales group at their management meeting. It was a great audience and things went very well. The weather decided to make things ugly though and I was fortunate there were no major delays on the roads.
Next up for me will be a talk in April at Cuyahoga Community College. I’ll also be speaking at St. Joseph school in Sylvania, a suburb of Toledo, on May 7th at 1 PM. My talk will be part of the week long “Positive Direction” program and is open to anyone interested in attending.
Physically, my neck is starting to feel much better than it has been these previous few weeks. I still take a few ibuprofens each day, but nothing too extreme. I have actually grown quite reluctant to taking any kind of pain medications. This is a far cry from where things were in the months following my initial injury. I guess I have my attending doctor to thank for my aversion since he was prone to withhold any kind of pain medications, even if I was struggling to find any ounce of solace from the the excruciating pain that comes from snapping one’s neck and breaking six cervical vertebrae.
Finally, I’d be remiss if I did not mention how awesome I am doing in my March Madness basketball bracket. Like everyone else, I had Florida Gulf Coast University reaching the Sweet 16 (obviously, I’m kidding). I’m down to 11 teams left, but now find myself hoping for an OSU-Michigan national championship game, although I don’t see that happening.
As always, I am very grateful for the continued thoughts and prayers I constantly receive. I’d ask that you also say a special prayer for my grandmother as well.
Stand Strong!
Scott
*Rest easy all you groundhog lovers, the lawyer has assured everyone that his lawsuit was filed as a “tongue-in-cheek” gesture and he has no plans for removing Phil from his burrow.
I hope to come hear you speak at St. Joseph’s!
hi scott, glad to hear the neck is doing a little better for you.. i will pray for grandma.. looks like going to be a few weeks before our wheather really breaks, although i have been getting out a little more and enjoying some of the folks ive been teaching the Bible too.. i have been using the Bible along with three books “The Words and Works of JESUS” and Things to Come” written by J. Dwight Pentecost, the third is a Bible Concordance.. i started a Bible study group because many newer Christians just arn’t getting what they need, the absolute basics.. who is Jesus, why Jesus and whats to come and for who.. how do i pray for real, how do i prepare myself for prayer, you got the idea.. it’s cool because of the questions raised during the study, we can look up answers together.. i am praying for you, God Bless…….mark
:You are one busy man. Keep sharing all that makes you so special with others. I will say a prayer for your grandmother and as always for you. Happy Easter my friend and God bless you.
Happy Easter, Scott. I will be sending you some more Arizona sunshine in the near future 🙂
You should know by now that in Cleveland we go from winter to summer or wait fifteen minutes and the weather changes. The cold keeps the brain alert!
Happy Easter, Scott. Hope the warm weather comes SOON!!!
God Bless You –
Mary

Blessed Easter to you and your family
Carol
It really is good that you feel better without any pain medicine. Trust me it is so hard not to rely on that stuff once you have gone through such a terrible and painful experience. it’s so hard to convince yourself that you don’t need it especially since I’ve had 8 surgeries in the past 5 years. I’m getting there though it has been very very very hard. it really is incredible what you’ve been through and how you remain so positive. 1 of my best friends just had an accidental overdose and passed away. he just went in for hip replacement and that was it, and now he’s gone. it is such a terrible waste. I never realized how unfair life really is sometimes. I’ll keep praying for you brother and I won’t forget to throw 1 in for your grandma either. I miss you Scott take care.
