“Don’t count every hour in the day. Make every hour in the day count.”
I came across the above quote in an e-mail that was waiting for me to read this morning. What struck me about the passage was the simplicity in which it stated such a complex concept for most individuals to adhere to.
Throughout the day, the more and more I thought about this quote, I realized that what it really speaks to is quality over quantity. It doesn’t matter how many “things” get crossed off your To Do list, or how much “stuff” you can pack into 24 hours, but rather how much contentment, fulfillment and enlightenment you get out of each day. At the end of the day, if you lie in bed exhausted from everything you did that day, rather than refreshed from the way you chose to spend that day, chances are you’re already thinking ahead about everything you need to do tomorrow and counting down the hours, rather than reflecting on what you took away from the day you just rushed through, the day you will never get back no matter how hard you try (yes, I’m aware that was a run-on sentence). It’s okay to get a lot done throughout the day, and in most cases is necessary, however it is also important to accomplish it with the right attitude and frame of mind.
This quote was a perfect little note placed in my Inbox at just the right time to remind me to appreciate the quality and not the quantity of hours I have to do stuff. As I have mentioned several times in the past, my injury has left me with the ability and opportunity to “be still”, a gift which I probably don’t use as much as I should. However, it’s a gift available to all of us free of charge, and one I invite all of you to take advantage of this Christmas season.
Regarding my recent surgery, things are progressing quite well. I am actually quite pleased with how well my body is repairing itself. My energy levels are almost back to where they were before all these crazy events transpired. I meet with my surgeon next week to get the staples removed and hopefully the okay to start working out again at Buckeye Wellness Center. Below is a picture of the surgical site after one week. You can see how much better it looks than the picture I posted last week. Also, you can see the hardware that was removed.
Tomorrow is December 1st. I am amazed at how fast this year has gone. There are only 31 days left to enjoy 2011, to complete any resolutions you made at the beginning of the year. Make every hour in the day count!
Finally, I want to wish the St. Ignatius Wildcats good luck as they compete for yet another football state championship this Saturday night in Canton. Let’s make it #11 in 2011!
Thank you for your continued prayers and support! Stand strong!
Scott

So glad that you are feeling better after the surgery…it really seems as if your body was telling you that those rods needed to come out π

The yoga version of this statement is simply to Live in the Present Moment.
Will you be able to make it to the Woodchoppers Ball on Saturday? I will be forwarding you the Kent Stage schedule regarding the Woodchoppers Ball with the links to all the guitar players sites. I verified that the Kent Stage does have wheelchair access.

You are such an inspiration. I thought of you this week when I went to the ESPN website. It is Jimmy V week and they have a video of his speech when he received the Arthur Ashe award. Worth watching and remembering his words “Don’t Give Up, Don’t ever give Up”
God bless!
Scott
We so enjoyed visiting over the holiday. You look great and continue to inspire us. Thank you for that quote, I needed it today.
Love and prayers
Patty and Ricky
I am so glad you had those rods removed. Each day the healing should get better. I have to smile when I hear people say how busy they are and I know people that do three times as much in the same period of time. It is all relative to each of us. Don’t push too hard on those workouts.
βDonβt count every hour in the day. Make every hour in the day count.β
Thank you for that quote – you always seem to have the perfect timing with your posts. You continue to inspire me and I’m sure so many others.
Take time to recover and get back into your workouts – so you can, again, move that foot! It’s the season for miracles and you very much deserve a big one!
Much love and sunshine is being sent your way –
