We’re already 2 weeks into the new year, and hopefully you are busy chipping away at those resolutions you made. Mine are temporarily on hold, as I have undertaken somewhat of a writing project for the month of January after reading about an idea in an article I came across. It requires (or strongly suggests) participation on a daily basis. Admittedly, I am a few days behind but really enjoy the exercise and try to give it the attention it deserves, rather than just do it each day to get it done. Not sure what I will do with the writings when it is over, but perhaps I may share some of them in the future.
However, something I do want to share is from Sam Berns, the 17-year-old who recently passed away from complications related to Progeria, a very rare disease that causes one to age extremely rapid. I watched a talk he gave in which he laid out his philosophy for a happy life.
- Be okay with what you ultimately can’t do, because there is so much you can do.
- Surround yourself with people you want to be around.
- Keep moving forward.
- Never miss a party if you can help it.
Pretty simple advice from a kid wise beyond his years.
I’m happy to report that Getting Back Up recently awarded 2 assistance grants for individuals to receive exercise-based therapy. The first was to a gentleman in Cleveland to attend Buckeye Wellness Center and the second to a man in Indiana to receive therapy at Next Steps of Chicago. Both facilities provide the aggressive therapy that I have been able to benefit from and grow stronger as a result of.
Speaking of which, I continue to work out a few days a week on my FES cycle. I have been concentrating mainly on my arms and have started to notice my shoulders feeling stronger. Typically, as I move through the day my muscles tend to grow very sore and fatigued. Fortunately, this has not been the case lately, especially given these colder temperatures which tend to exasperate the issue, and I think it is mainly due to the increased exercise.
In my previous post I mentioned a good friend of mine who was battling some serious health issues. God once again demonstrated His miraculous healing power and bestowed a clean bill of health on my friend. This is a real miracle given how serious of a situation he was facing. Amen.
Finally, I have several speaking engagements lined up over the next few weeks to a variety of different audiences. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you or your organization/church/school might be interested in having me speak.
My sincere thanks for all of your continued prayers and support!
Stand Strong!
