“This beautifully crafted film allows us a unique and powerful insight into the relationship between a recording artist and the impact he has had on those who connect so profoundly with his music.” – Ridley Scott

Last November, it was announced that, Ridley Scott, an Academy Award-winning producer/director (Black Hawk down, Gladiator, Thelma & Louise) was producing a feature-length film about Bruce Springsteen.

Described as a documentary project on Bruce Springsteen made by the people and for the people, an “open audition” was held for fans worldwide to make their own film about Bruce and what he means to them. Producers were looking for fans’ most personal insights, abstractions and reflections on how Bruce Springsteen and his music has affected their lives.

As you can imagine, I thought I had a pretty interesting story to tell and decided to put a little video together with the help of my friend, Justin Linton. The casting call ran from November 15 to November 29, 2012, with the deadline ultimately being pushed back until February 1, 2013 due to the large amount of entries.

Below is the video I submitted that was recorded in November 2012. I hope you enjoy it.

The release date for the movie is July 22, 2013.

At this time, I have not received any notification that any of my story will be included, so I am not expecting to see myself on the big screen. However, Springsteen has had a profound impact on my life and I am looking forward to seeing the film and gaining an even deeper appreciation for the effect his music has had on others.

Stand Strong!

Scott, you continue to be a true inspiration to me. I don’t think you even realize how your story has effected me across the miles! It has truly instilled in me a deeper gratitude for everything in my life and an entirely different perspective and passion for living my most authentic life. I am so thankful to you for making this video and sharing your story. Your ability to tap into that deeper meaning and inner spirit we all carry is truly something that we can all learn from you to enrich our lives and return ourselves to a life that is truly meaningful, and to have a real understanding of what really matters. I don’t even know if you realize how much your story, strength, and spirit gives all of us this awareness we might otherwise not have had. Thank you for making this video and sharing this absolutely precious gift with everyone around you! I count you as one of my heroes and blessings. Thank you, Scott, and God bless! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

I really enjoyed watching your video. It was so well done, and I always enjoy watching videos of fellow quadriplegics, especially when they talk about what give some strength and motivates them.

I have to admit that I really don’t know much about Bruce Springsteen, other than that he is a singer, but I definitely look forward to watching the documentary when it comes out.

    God bless you, Scott!

Very cool video Scott. Life takes twists and turns, good and bad. Just like you I never imagined I’d be paralyzed, mentally and physically dealing with this new life. I so enjoy your blogs, I always come away with something positive and uplifting. So cool that Bruce was your first concert in 92.If someone told you that you’d be at a Bruce concert 20 yrs later and he’d kiss you on the top of your head, you’d wonder what they were smoking!

Scott, YOU are the Bull. Nothing can stop you. We have been praying for you since the accident happened. The greatest thing about your strength is that you have lived it and passed it forward. I have wonderful friends who’s boys went to Ignatius, and are better men for knowing you are never alone. May JESUS Bless you through these difficult times. I have faith you will be able to anything YOU want to do. Barry Furrer ( Brenda’s husband). AS a good friend of “Ours” said be a “MAN FOR OTHERS” YOU have already done that. Bear

I’ve enjoyed your updates and cannot believe it was 2009 when the accident happened. I believe you’ve come a L O N G way! 🙂

I watched the video yesterday and in The Journal Gazette there is an article titled ‘Survivor’ contestant speaks of faith at Central Christian School about bullying, faith, and the importance of making supportive friendships. He was also the one who passed out and fell into the fire and suffered second and third degree burns on his face, hands and chest.

You two have so much in common, your drive, your friends and your Faith! It would ywo be nice to see you two hook up sometime and maybe do a speaking tour or or another video to get the Word out of Faith and God!
His name is Michael Skupin if your intetested in checking him out.
A Special thank you to your friends and family who have stayed by your side and continue to be so supportive. You truly have been Blessed!

This video brought tears to my eyes, Scott. I am sure Bruce had to be moved by meeting you and know he was your idol. Maybe he will write another song for you when you walk again.

Scott, I really enjoyed the video and the telling of your story which is so remarkable and inspiring. The bond you have with Bruce and his music shows that we all have something to share with each other whether we are aware of it or not. But now Bruce knows just how much he has been a part of your ongoing recovery and in that you are as much a gift to him as he and his music has been to you.

We keep on praying and hoping for you. You are a true blessing to all who witness you.

    Much love,
    JoAnn Hatgas
