I wanted to post a quick “help wanted” advertisement. My family has been busy trying to figure out all of the at-home equipment we will need. We’ve been looking at a lot of things, but frankly, it is starting to become overwhelming. If anyone is aware of where we might be able to find a resource to assist us in creating the wish list of equipment I will need, please contact us. I know we will need a bed, a hoyer lift, shower chair, etc. However, I need some suggestions on where to find these and which ones are the best.
I can’t begin to describe how overwhelming this process has been. There are a lot of other things we are trying to accomplish as well — purchase a vehicle, find a home, apply to outpatient rehab facilities, and just navigate through the maze. Unfortunately, my family and I are slowly drowning with all this. If there is anyone out there who can offer any suggestions on where we can find the information we need, and get some help I would greatly appreciate it — so would my family.
I am sure several of you know others in a similar situation to mine that might be a good resource to draw from their own experience. Please put them in touch with me.
Thank you for all your prayers and support, we’ll keep you updated on how it goes at Metro on Friday!
Scott
Hey Scott…I’ve been on vacation for the last two weeks and just saw this post…sorry for coming in at the last minute on this…as Julie Short wrote, I’d be the one to help address & set all this up from the Spinal Cord Team @ MetroHealth…I’ve worked homecare before & could connect with the therapists who treated you while you were here and find out what type of equipment you used or would need now…If you already have someone doing this for you…great…If not, you have my email and my floor/office phone is (216) 778-8438/8729…I agree with the comment posted by peggy crawford re: the vendors she mentioned…those would be the ones we would recommend…God bless
Hi Scott. I am a friend of Brenda Furrer. Here in the Toledo area, we have the Abilities Center of NW Ohio. I am not sure if there is a similar organization in your area, but if there is not, you should be able to get answers to many of your questions via phone or e-mail from the NW Ohio office. I do know the Public Relations Director, Dan Wilkins. His e-mail adress is dwilkins@abilitycenter.org and phone number is 419-885-5733. He should be able to steer you in the right direction.
I have thought of you often since Brenda had told me about your accident. Keep the faith! Best of luck to you and your family!

Hello Scott,
Not sure if you remember me or not, but I worked in the media relations department at MetroHealth and introduced you to the folks from the Plain Dealer.
I’ve been reading your updates and you continue to inspire me.
As for resources, the Spinal Cord team at Metro should be able to help guide you thru what you need. Also, the Spinal Cord group that meets there once a month (sorry, the name escapes me right now), should be able to help you. Not sure if you’ve attended any meetings or not since you’ve been out of the hospital. Also, in August, they had a Spinal Cord seminar at the hospital and several vendors attend the event. Perhaps your your family could follow-up with someone from the team.
Again, I think about you often and I am so happy to read you are movng forward and continue to progress.
Take care,
Julie
That was so smart of you to post this. I hope you get a lot of responses.
Good Luck with everything. I wish I could be of some assistance.
God Bless You!

Hi Scott – are you familiar with Joni Eareckson-Tada? She broke her neck in a diving accident back in the 70’s and has formed an organization called Joni & Friends to help others in similar situations. I have had the privilege to hear her speak several times and she is very inspirational. Besides being an inspiration, her organizzation might be a helpful resource to you. Check out her website at joniandfriends.org
